The Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site is located in the ghost town of Washington, near Navasota. It is the site of the state’s 1836 convention, during which the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed. Washington-on-the-Brazos is commonly referred to as “the birthplace of Texas.” The site contains a number of attractions, including Independence Hall, The Barrington Living History Farm, and the Star of the Republic Museum. The park is open year round from 8am to dusk. There is no admission fee and parking is complimentary on site.
