The Ostrava Zoo was established in 1951 and is located in the middle of the Ostrava forest. Today, there are more than 270 different species of animals here that are spread over an area of 100ha. There are over 1,200 animals in total, which include elephants, giraffes, tigers, chimpanzees, hippopotami, camels, flamingos and parrots. The Ostrava Zoo is a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums, which comprises the world’s 200 most important zoos and aquariums. The zoo provides a wide variety of educational programs for the public, and there is also a petting zoo with domestic animals. The zoo is open daily throughout the year at the following times: November - January from 9am until 4pm February from 9am until 5pm March, September and October from 9am until 6pm April and August from 9am until 7pm The admission charges are: Adults - 70 CZK (2.5 Euros) Children - 50 CZK (2 Euros) Concessions - 50 CZK (2 Euros)
