About The New Inn

The New Inn is in fact 600 years old and in the heart of Gloucester, close to the Cathedral and Folk Museum.

There is a 15th century style throughout, including the en-suite bedrooms’ beams and panelled walls.  Rooms also include free Wi-Fi, colour television, hairdryer and tea and coffee facilities.

The ancient galleried courtyard is a striking feature and there are facilities for meetings and social events.   Discounted car parking is a 5 minute walk from The New Inn.

Complimentary breakfast choices are served daily. Real ales figure prominently in The Old Tap and Barrel Bar, Pilgrim’s is a traditional carvery restaurant and Grey’s Coffee House serves teas, coffees, snacks and pastries.

The towns of Tewkesbury and Cheltenham are a short car journey away and the city’s Eastgate and King’s walk Shopping Centres are a 2 minute stroll. The railway station is a 5 minutes walkable distance

Positive Reviews

Lots of appeal for all.

There’s a real buzz about the New Inn + in addition to accommodating visitors, it’s a focal point locally for those in search of a friendly pub or meal out. The fun atmosphere is attracts all age groups, including families. Accommodation in these quirky old rooms includes a popular 4 poster option. The inn is a popular base for visiting business people and contractors with a substantial breakfast to start the day and lots of bar and restaurant choices – including terrific steaks – at the other end of the day.

Super rooms.

You can’t create character like this and even the rooms are immersed in 15th century features. They are also very clean and the beds, comfortable. Neither are they very far to go after a night in the bar or restaurant!

Top notch food.

Breakfast is well cooked and substantial. If staying as a tourist, you’ll be drawn back here during the day for some really appetising lunch menus. Then there’s tea and cakes in the coffee shop before drinks in the bar and dinner. One of the main tourist attractions is Gloucester Cathedral. Thankfully ...it’s only 300 yards away!

Negative Reviews

Medieval cleaning standards.

Used cups and towels on arrival, manky furnishings, unclean en-suites, etc. Either the cleaning lady is ‘off’ or this is the usual state of the rooms. Awful.

Historic inn spoilt by modern interference.

Pop music, dart boards and giant size TVs don’t sit easily in the ancient public areas of the New Inn.

Pub emphasis.

Lots of rollicking noise from enthusiastically run bars and restaurants can be a pain for resident guests. Try somewhere else in town? Take care at night! There are places that feel less menacing than Gloucester!
