Positive Reviews

Impressive building with stunning views.

The turreted castle dates back to the 19th century and is said to look extremely impressive set in acres of private grounds. Guests thoroughly appreciated the peaceful rural location as well as the stunning views of Cromarty Firth which some could enjoy from the comfort of their rooms.

Pleasant and well-appointed communal areas.

The communal areas including the bar and the lounge have been described as elegantly presented and very pleasant places where guests could relax and socialise. The lounge with its slouchy leather sofas and cosy open-fire proved a popular place for the guests to sit and unwind as well as the bar which was said to boast an extensive selection of fine malt whiskies.

Memorable dining experiences.

From the freshly prepared breakfasts through to the afternoon cream teas and  evening meals, all the food served at the hotel was said to be full of flavour and made from quality local produce. Guests said that the food was well presented and the portions ample whilst many also complimented the service which was described as courteous and attentive.

Negative Reviews

Dated rooms.

Guests mentioned that the decor of the rooms was starting look somewhat tired and dated with worn carpets and marks on the walls. Quite a few remarked that the rooms needed a fresh lick of paint and new pieces of furniture.

Sluggish Internet connection.

The Wi-Fi signal was said to be quite weak and intermittent as guests were disappointed to find that they couldn't easily connect to the Internet from their rooms.

Temperature issues.

The rooms were said to be quite cold as the heating system is centrally controlled and set on a timer. Although many had mobile heaters in their rooms, guests found them inadequate especially during the winter months.
