About FNB Soccer City Stadium

FNB Soccer City - also known as Soccer City - is a purpose built stadium that has been constructed as the centrepiece of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. It will host both the first game of the tournament and the eventual Final and has been built as the hub of South African football.

The capacity of the stadium is almost 95,000 and the stadium was designed in the shape of a calabash. Soccer City is not the first stadium on this site. Its predecessor was built in the 1980s and played host to the first big political rally after the release of Nelson Mandela.
