Positive Reviews

A wonderful Lake District base for sightseeing.

Horse & Farrier Inn is a great base for exploring Threlkeld, Derwentwater, and all of the trails, water activities, and historical sites that populate the region. With the park and the village nearby, the scenery alone inspires sightseeing. Public transit

Filling and hearty menus and great local ales.

The menus use local and seasonal ingredients, and are generously portioned and moderately priced. Local Jennings ales, and a nice wine and spirits list, keep this a place to dine while you stay.

Great staff are attentive to all size parties.

The staff welcome every guest equally, with the focus on you getting the most out of your stay. They're the sources to go to for insider knowledge about the area and transport. Families and travellers with dogs receive just as much attention as guests tra

Negative Reviews

Shabby and worn-out rooms and cramped bathrooms.

The rooms don't look as fresh as advertised or expected. They're too dull and shabby, and the space isn't as expansive. The bathrooms are also tight space, with barely any room to keep your toiletries.

Rooms above the pub pick up a lot of noise.

If you're a light sleeper, check the location of your room. Those closest to the pub will pick up every sound, so your sleep will most likely be disrupted. You may also want to have ear plugs, just in case.

More like a pub and rooms rather than a whole inn.

The overall impression is that of a pub with some rooms in the main house, rather than the more charming ambiance of an entire inn. The accommodations seem like a restaurant and pub, with the rooms taking second in attention.
