About Whinlatter Forest Park

Rising to nearly 800 metres, Whinlatter Forest Park is the only Mountain Forest in England. From its boundaries there are views of the Lake District Mountains, Keswick and Bassenthwaite lake while Scotland can be seen from its summits. The centre point is Grisedale Pike which provides hill walking and hiking opportunities. The woodlands near the Visitor Centre offer orienteering, mountain bike trails and adventure playgrounds. Many wild animals can be seen close to the Centre including a giant badger. Between May and September a live video link to the nesting site shows ospreys raising their chicks. The Visitor Centre has a shop, cafe and classrooms. A variety of competitions and events are held through the year culminating in the Christmas tree sale in December. The Park is managed by the Forestry Commission.

There are car parks at the Visitor Centre, Noble Knott and Revelin Moss.
