About Knysna Lagoon

The Knysna Lagoon is part of the Knysna National Lake Area. This in turn was proclaimed as an area protected from development in 1985. There are more than 200 fish species to be found.

The Lagoon activities include fishing, scuba diving, sailing, kayak , yachting, whale and dolphin watching and swimming. Fishing requires a fishing license which can be obtained at the local post office.There are various boating companies to hire a boat or canoe from. A number of ferries are making cruises around the lagoon which last approximately for 2 hours.

The Knysna Heads serves as a narrow entrance to the lagoon. There are caves and rock formations around the Heads and a wooden bridge for a closer look.

Along the lagoon are many cafes, restaurants and shops to be found. Many places to eat offer views onto the Knysna Lagoon.
