About Knysna Elephant Park

Knysna Elephant Park is a refuge for elephants located in the southern tip of South Africa near Plettenberg Bay, along the scenic Garden Route. The purpose of the park is to provide a free range for threatened and orphaned elephants and to offer human visitors an opportunity to observe and interact with these magnificent creatures. Knysna is not a wildlife reserve, but rather a park with handlers and guides—ensuring that both elephants and visitors are protected.

Options for ‘elephant experiences’ at Knysna consist of frequent tours introducing visitors and elephants to one another, elephant back rides, elephant walks (walking tours on the fynbos), sunrise/sunset safaris, and ‘sundowner’ events (including guests, guides, elephants, and refreshments in the early evening).

Park facilities include the Elephant Lodge with six en suite accommodations overlooking the elephants’ feeding and sleeping area, an independent restaurant (serves breakfast, lunch, tea, and special functions), wedding and conference services, child-friendly activities, and a gift shop.
