Positive Reviews

Members of staff are great

Staff members here are very friendly and helpful. Perhaps the reception people stand out. Generally, the bigger the city, the more 'stand offish' hotel staff can become – and London is no exception. Here, though, the reverse applies. They couldn’t be more friendly or helpful.

Can’t complain about the location!

Here you are, right in the middle of trendy Shoreditch; so, there’s so much that’s just a stroll from the hotel. No need for expensive taxis!

Pleasing facilities

The hotel has some very individual appeal, much of which is inherited from the time when it was an old courthouse. Added to the decorative features are some strikingly impressive facilities. The pool in the basement is spot on. Well worth taking a dip. Breakfast in the restaurant is delicious and those city views from the rooftop bar are sensational. Also, what a pleasant surprise to find a rainfall shower.

Negative Reviews

A horrible lack of history

The rooms are OK but because they’ve tried to highlight some authenticity in the public areas, the rooms can seem … well, a bit bland. It’s a pity that they haven’t made more of the hotel’s historic past - generally - and also filtered it through into the design of the rooms.

Counting the cost

Breakfast is very impressive but the extortionate cost is likely to leave you with indigestion. Car parking is another costly niggle. These things add up and it has to be said that the hotel tariff is, itself, excessive. The hotel is good … but not that good!

Maintenance issues

There is a noticeable and ongoing lack of hot water for early morning showers. Lighting in the bathroom is poor and it’s touch and go as to whether the TV is going to work.
