About Airport Madrid Barajas

Madrid Barajas airport is Spain's largest and busiest airport and the fourth busiest in Europe. It is the home airport of the Spanish carrier Iberia which accounts for over half of all traffic through the airport.

The airport first opened for business in 1931 and has undergone many phases of building and expansion culminating in 2006 with the opening of Terminal 4 and 4S which were designed by award-winning architects Richard Rogers and Antonio Lamela. Terminal 4 is one of the largest airport terminal buildings in the world.

Terminal 4 is home to Iberia and the carriers of the Oneworld Alliance group including British Airways and American Airlines. The other three terminals cover all other carriers. The airport is linked to the centre of Madrid by the Madrid Metro, the EMT buses and taxis are also available.

Madrid Barjas won the accolade of 'Best Airport' in the 2008 Conde Nast Traveller Readers Awards.
