Positive Reviews

Unbeatable central location

The location right in the heart of Madrid was far and away what most impressed guests about Plaza Mayor. Madrid is of course a massive city, and guests couldn't walk to absolutely every site they wanted to visit, but they could walk to a great many. They loved this, and also the feeing of being at the very heart of a great European capital.

Friendly and helpful staff

The hotel is a fairly small one, and guests speak of a very friendly atmosphere pervading. They reckon the standard is set by the owner, who is described as hands-on and very helpful. Guests certainly never felt as if they were not being heard.

Very good value for money

Value for money was mentioned a fair number of times. Most guests felt that, considering the prime location and decent rooms, they received very good value for money.

Negative Reviews

No in-room tea or coffee making facilities

While this is something of a cultural issue, with many nations not having the tradition of their hotels including these facilities; this offered no solace  to guests who yearned for a quick and easy “cuppa”, only to find no way to prepare one in their  room.

Some rooms exceptionally small

This wasn't exactly a universal complaint, but there were a fair number of guests who were a bit unhappy with the size of their rooms. There are various classes of rooms, and those lower down seem to be very small indeed

Very low watt bulbs

This was mentioned a surprising number of times. Some rooms seem to be dark, even in the middle of the day. To add to the gloom, guests report that the hotel uses exceptionally low-watt bulbs. As a result they are unable to read anything properly in their room.
