Positive Reviews

Very nice roof terrace

There’s no doubt that the roof terrace was guests' favourite part of the hostel. They reported that it was very tranquil up there, with ample seating, shade and even a bit of a view out over the rooftops. Also often mentioned was that there was an outdoor shower up there, which guests really enjoyed using.

Excellent location and outlook

Guests couldn’t have been any happier with the location of the hostel. It was described as being very close to the historical attractions of Malacca, such as Dutch Square and Jonker Walk, as well as being close to the river. Guests especially liked being able walk along the river to get to other places in the city.

Very clean inside

Guests explained that the owners have a strict policy that all guests abide by the Malaysian custom of not wearing shoes in the home at any time. This seemed to be partly the reason for the terrific standard of cleanliness that was said to be maintained.

Negative Reviews

The hostel is often unstaffed

Guests explained that the owner of the hostel also owns a nearby café, and that he usually needs to be at the café. It seems that this is mostly a family business, without many other staff, and it often happens that there are no staff around the hostel.

Wi-Fi caused some frustration

Like with many hotels and hostels, the Wi-Fi here was not held in high regard. The bandwidth seemed insufficient for busy times, resulting in dropped connections and slow data transfer speeds.

Beds are not very comfortable

Most of the beds at the hostel were described as very old and uncomfortable. The main problems seemed to be feeling the springs of the mattress and that they sagged in the middle.
