About Azores

The Azores is a budget hotel with an enviable location in Mexico City's historic centre, steps from the grand Mexican Metropolitan Cathedral and Zocalo, the vibrant main square.

The simply furnished guest rooms are equipped with a television, free Wi-Fi, and en-suite bathrooms with a shower and complimentary toiletries.

Free private parking is available on site. The Azores also offers a 24-hour front desk and luggage storage.

Travellers can unwind in the cosy lobby bar, or enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine at Los Portales; the on-site restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The spectacular Palace of Fine Arts and Central Alameda Park are approximately one kilometre from the hotel, and the Templo Mayor Museum is even closer. Plaza Garabaldi, famous for its talented mariachi performers, is about 15 minutes on foot, as is Mexico City's grandest avenue, Paseo de la Reforma.

Positive Reviews

A fabulous location for sightseers

Few travellers fail to mention the hotel's pleasant and convenient location, just two blocks from the city's famous main square, Zocalo. Sightseers also comment that most of the sights in this part of town, including the Palace of Fine Arts and the Templo Mayor Museum, are within a comfortable walking distance. Guests who want to explore the city a bit further without fighting the traffic note that there is a Metrobus stop very close by, and a Metro stop within a short walk as well.

Friendly, attentive staff

The reception personnel are widely praised for their friendly yet polite and professional customer service.

Negative Reviews

Guest rooms have seen better days

While often described as clean and fairly priced, the guest rooms are also generally considered a bit cramped, with very small en-suite bathrooms. Guests also note that the furnishings, decor, and bathroom fixtures have not been updated in many years.

Don't forget to pack ear plugs

Guests often comment that the classical music played in the lobby area is also clearly audible in the guest rooms and continues well into the evening hours. Others are kept up at night by a noisy ventilation system or by the sound of fellow guests in adjoining rooms and hallways.

Changing television channels will cost you

Travellers who want to watch television in their rooms are annoyed to find that remote controls are available only from the front desk, and it is necessary to pay a not insignificant security deposit to get one.
