Positive Reviews

Appealing location

The location of the Newcastle Beach YHA appeals to guests, with many appreciating the easy access to the beach and the Fort Scratchley Historic Site. Perhaps the only downside is that there is only one small grocery store nearby. However, more options are easily reached by bus.

Decent range of facilities

Guests are complimentary about the choice of facilities on offer. The highlights include the free use of the surfboards and bodyboards. Plus, guests enjoy the various socials held through the week. These offer savings on food and the chance to meet fellow guests.

Friendly staff

The staff at this YHA attract positive feedback from guests. Most describe the team as happy to stop and chat. You can also count on the staff to help out with tips on how to make the most of your stay. Plus, the tour desk staff is knowledgeable and can help with discounted tickets.

Negative Reviews

No air-conditioning

The lack of air-conditioning in the rooms and dorms was a problem for some guests. The provided fan is not a particularly good substitute for proper climate control, particularly as one fan is supposed to cool down numerous people.

Cleanliness could be better

Opinions about whether this YHA is clean tends to vary. While some guests found the standards of cleanliness acceptable, others raise concerns. Reported issues include dirty bathrooms, stained linens and cockroaches.

Better for a younger crowd

Reviews suggest that although family rooms are available, this YHA is probably better suited to a younger crowd. Families may find the other guests are a little too rowdy to consider staying with children.
