About The Clarkeston

A piece of Newport history, The Clarkeston is said to be one of the oldest inns in the city. This Aquidneck Island property provides comfortable accommodation and features working fireplaces and complimentary Wi-Fi access.

Each of the rooms at this inn is named after famous locals from Newport's history and filled with fine antiques. Select rooms also feature amenities such as TVs and spa tubs while private bathrooms and air conditioning are available in all rooms.

Off street parking is available to all guests and there is heating throughout the building.

Full breakfasts are made to order and served in the inn’s dining room while guests may dine out at one of the many local eateries such as Brick Alley that is just a four-minute walk away.

The Clarkeston is a seven-minute walk from Block Island Ferry and only a one-minute walk from Jane Pickens Theater.

Positive Reviews

Superb breakfast

The cooked to order breakfast is considered by many to be the biggest selling point of this place. You get a great choice on the menu, and it's all cooked to perfection. A great way to start a busy day of sightseeing.

The best location in town

You literally cannot find a better street to stay on in Newport. The theater is at the end of the street, and the bars and restaurants are just a short walk away. The great thing about this place is that it's on a quiet street making it perfect for a relaxing weekend break.

Lovely staff treat you like a local

The people that work here treat everyone like an old friend and are more than happy to help out in any way that they can. They'll even go so far as to recommend places to eat in the area.

Negative Reviews

Are you staying in The Clarkeston?

The owners of this inn actually own a few others in the area so depending on how many guests arrive or the time you arrive you may find yourself in another property. This is far from ideal as many guests book the place to stay in The Clarkeston.

Overpriced

This is an inn, but it seems to be charging boutique hotel prices. The rooms are fine but the amenities are getting a bit dated, so it's no surprise that quite a few guests find this place to be overpriced. The owners will sometimes offer discounts, but this only seems to happen if you are placed in another property.

Getting a little worn

The rooms are supposed to be vintage with all their beautiful antiques, but they still need to be kept in good shape. There are some obvious signs of wear and tear throughout the place.
