Positive Reviews

Island location has breathtaking views.

Guests loved the views of the Cuillins and the tranquil nature of Raasay, which has about 200 permanent residents. Many reviewers enjoyed walks, bike rides, discovering secluded beaches and occasionally spotting local wildlife like eagles, seals and deer. Motorist reviewers suggested leaving the car in Sconser on Skye to save on ferry fares unless you intend to explore northern Raasay.

Sympathetically renovated manor house.

Reviewers liked the building’s sympathetic conversion into eclectic accommodation. Tasteful furnishings and modern bathrooms were reported in the deluxe rooms. All room types were generally described as spacious, clean and adequately comfortable for a shorter stay.

Warm island welcome.

This establishment felt like a real asset to the island community who took pride in it, according to many reviewers. Personnel were described as friendly and helpful, although reviews occasionally mentioned some inexperienced seasonal staff.

Negative Reviews

Rooms disappointed some.

Although management have recommended booking rooms with care to avoid disappointment, some reviewers were nevertheless unhappy with their accommodation. Occasionally reviewers were unaware that budget rooms were aimed at backpackers, meaning they were unhappy with the push button showers and lack of a television. Guests requiring added comfort could instead choose standard and deluxe hotel-style rooms, which were pricier but attracted more positive reviews.

Value for money questioned.

Some hostel room guests on doubted they got value for money as there were no facilities for them to prepare their own meals. With only 20 or so letting rooms, accommodation rates in general were sometimes said to be high during peak periods of demand.

Island life drawbacks.

The ferry crossing was an added expense for visitors, who also felt food prices could be steep on Raasay as there were limited dining options. Being on a remote island, weak Wi-Fi was also reported as a frustration.
