About Brim

In an unpretentious low-rise building, the Brim is around half-a-mile east of the city’s busy Downtown district. A warm welcome and some impressive views characterise a stay at this informal hotel.

Simple guest rooms with minimal furnishings and plain decor come with central heating. Some rooms provide wash basins and/or tables and chairs. Family rooms with bunk beds are also available. Whilst some accommodations have private bathrooms, others require guests to use shared facilities.

As well as luggage storage and tour/ticket assistance, car hire (at a fee) can be arranged at reception (open 24/7 during summer). Parking and Wi-Fi are both provided free of charge.

A continental breakfast is offered in a nearby property each day. There’s also a communal kitchen and some vending machines dispensing snack and drinks.

The Brim is a ten-minute walk from the Laugavegur shopping district and about a mile from the striking Hallgrimskirkja cathedral.

Positive Reviews

Receptionists provide outstanding service

The vast majority of travellers who've visited this hotel have raved about the incredibly warm welcome and exemplary service they received from the friendly folk at reception. Clearly, these are the kind of employees who believe wholeheartedly in going the extra mile to ensure visitors enjoy their stay.

Communal kitchen helps your money to go further

A significant number of guests really appreciated having a shared kitchen facility on site, mostly because eating in is far more economical in this super-expensive country than dining out in restaurants every day.

Location is quiet yet convenient

Lots of visitors loved the fact this hotel is set on a peaceful street yet is only a 15-minute stroll from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Those who opted for the home-cooked ‘eating in' option were thrilled to discover a supermarket just up the road.

Negative Reviews

Accommodations provide very little space

A great many guests have complained about the size of the guest rooms, especially those on the first floor. Evidently, there is very little room to spread out and relax.

Property is in need of some renovation

It has been observed that this rather Spartan building could benefit enormously from even a modest renovation programme. Most visitors agreed that the property as a whole felt more like a hostel than a hotel.

Smelly water isn't pleasant

Numerous guests have highlighted the fact that, because this hotel makes use of Iceland's famed domestic thermal water, the showers here deliver a most unwelcome smell. Clearly, it's not so easy to enjoy your washing time when the eggy smell of sulphur is keeping you company.
