About Hotel Sole

Named among Rome’s oldest hotels, Hotel Sole possesses a roof garden offering views across the rooftops to the domed Sant’Andrea della Valle church. Built on the ruins of the theatre where Julius Caesar was murdered, it boasts three stars and on-site parking.

Inviting, modest rooms, some with city views, enjoy wood furnishings and en suite bathrooms with hairdryers and toiletries plus air-conditioning, flat-screen satellite TVs and tea and coffee-making facilities. Family rooms are available.

Conveniences include a 24-hour reception, concierge, room service, airport shuttles, free Wi-Fi throughout and an inner courtyard garden.

A buffet continental breakfast is served in the gardens. Authentic gelaterias and pizzerias plus Italian restaurants specialising in fish, meat and Roman cuisine dominate the surrounding blocks.

Located just off the bustling market square of Campo de Fiori, Hotel Sole is less than one mile from the famous Trevi Fountain. The nearest bus stops are just steps away and it’s also about five minutes’ walk south of gorgeous Piazza Navona.

Positive Reviews

Good location in historic central Rome

Travellers were delighted to be so close to a key Roman thoroughfare served by numerous bus routes. Moreover, sightseeing on foot was easy as beautiful Piazza Navona was a short walk away for people-watching, bars and dining options. Furthermore, the hotel was just a stone’s throw from Campo de Fiore for markets. Drivers welcomed the availability of an on-site parking garage, a rarity in the centre of the Eternal City.

Historic hotel was affordable and clean

With its old-fashioned charm, this property attracted largely positive comments from reviewers, who often felt that they got reasonable value for money as the room rates were normally competitive. The rooms at this hotel with bags of history were described as unpretentious but smart and clean.

Breakfast and customer service won praise

Those who opted for the simple but affordable breakfast enjoyed starting their day in the inner garden or up on the roof with its garden terrace, offering views of Sant’Andrea della Valle church and its impressive dome. In addition, guests spoke highly of the multilingual personnel, saying they were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and energetic.

Negative Reviews

Free Wi-Fi issues

Although the free Wi-Fi appealed to many visitors, some critics claimed the signal could have done with a boost in certain areas of the building.

Maintenance concerns plus irritating noises and sm

Shower heads that needed replacing, dated pieces of furniture and poor ventilation bothered critics in several rooms. Moreover, there were reports that some rooms closer to communal areas were prone to nuisance noise or wafting cigarette smoke.

Room sizes varied widely

The rooms reportedly varied in size quite widely. Critics said some of the smallest rooms were rather cramped. The bathrooms were also said to be quite petite. Others claimed their rooms were lacking in natural light.
