Positive Reviews

Decent Locale with Beautiful Grounds

Charming, well-maintained grounds offer a natural, rustic feel to the surroundings of this State College spot.  The popular golf course attracts many and the heated pool for adults/ kiddie wading pool are enjoyed by numerous others. A nearby bus stop gets guests downtown easily. Although widely considered to have been on the decline, this property is undergoing a gradual refurbishment, sprucing up many areas. Rooms are no frills with decent bedding, functioning amenities and excellent showers in some newly-tiled bathrooms. Ask for a view over the pool or golf course. Don't be surprised to find bottled water and chocolates upon arrival.  Look for discounts to get the most bang for your buck - the rates likely get much higher during Penn State football game (or other large event) weekends. The daily continental breakfast serves up the expected options with a few extras like French Toast, corned beef hash and bacon.

Superb Staff

Efficient and charming staff are on the job here from arrival to departure.  Friendly reception staff greet you with warm welcomes and the housekeeping/maintenance teams are stellar. Special requests are granted with ease.

Rave Restaurant Reviews

The on-site Field Pub restaurant is widely-enjoyed.  Biggest brags go to the perfectly-prepared salmon, salads, kale and quinoa, blue cheese-topped cheeseburgers, the Herbivores (delightful veggie burgers), hand-cut fries, phenomenal beer list, and locally-grown produce.  Stop in when you can for a tasty meal around the fireplace!

Negative Reviews

No Elevators

Those with mobility issues should request a ground floor unit.

Outdated with a Strange Layout

Some complained of the outdated features throughout and the odd placement of hallways, ceilings, etc.  Do note:  the refurb is ongoing.

Watch your Deposits

Some reported wedding deposits, canceled even as far as three months in advance, were kept in their entirety.
