About Holgate Brewhouse

Situated above a charming family owned craft brewery, Holgate Brewhouse is a boutique property offering 10 rooms right on Woodend’s High Street.

The second storey rooms have views out over either the village or Mount Macedon. They are luxuriously furnished and feature en-suite bathrooms, mini fridges, tea/coffee stations, work desks and telephones.

Staff at the bar/restaurant downstairs can assist with check-in and any other queries or issues. There’s an onsite shop selling branded apparel and other items.

If anything, the property is better known for its craft beers and food than its accommodation. The bar and restaurant below serve great value pub food and a variety of the brewery’s own craft beers. Matching beer to food is a popular pastime.

Woodend is approximately 45 miles north of Melbourne, though the town itself has much to offer visitors. The Woodend Golf Club is less than a mile from Holgate Brewhouse , while Mount Macedon is eight miles away.

Positive Reviews

Great pub right downstairs

This is more of a pub/restaurant with accommodation, rather than a hotel. Guests appreciated all the attention paid to the brewery and restaurant, since it resulted in what they described as top quality food with excellent and unique craft beers.

Friendly and pleasant staff

It was impossible to find an unkind word written about the staff here. They were described as exceptionally friendly and efficient. Guests clearly felt well taken care of by them during their stay.

Right in the middle of town

Guests liked being so centrally located in Woodend. They reported that the property was on the High Street and right in the centre of the village, liking the convenience this entailed. The village of Woodend itself also came in for a lot of praise, with guests saying it was charming and had a number of attractions.

Negative Reviews

Rooms in need of a makeover

Guests felt that the rooms upstairs were looking a little worse for wear and had clearly not seen a refresh or renovation in many years. They believed that they should urgently be revamped in order to justify the room rates.

Very disappointing breakfast

The breakfast was not served in the pub downstairs, but in the guest rooms. Guests didn’t really like this, saying they would have been happier having their breakfast in a dedicated room. The quality of the breakfast was also judged to be a lot poorer than the food available in the pub later.

Very small TVs

Guests who were wanting to watch a movie or game in their room were not at all impressed with the TVs. They were sad to be exceptionally small, which made viewing them a rather unpleasant experience.
