Positive Reviews

Perfectly located for exploring all of York

The hotel is in a perfect location for seeing York on foot Many of the local attractions are 30 minutes or less, and are a great way for visitors to really absorb the area's beauty Historical sites and museums, ghost tours, and charming tea rooms are relatively close by Seeing York by car is also convenient, with Castle Howard being 15 miles away, and Sewerby Hall and Gardens a scenic one hour drive.

Lovely friendly hosts who make you feel welcome

The hosts enjoy sharing stories about York's history, along with momentous events that have occurred in the house's history Lovely touches, such as the welcoming decanter of sherry, china cups to drink from, and chocolates at special occasions stick out as tiny sentiments that are well appreciated.

Home cooked breakfast is well worth the charge

A surcharge for the breakfast isn't minded, because of the delicious home cooked quality and ample size The continental meal is also well regarded, featuring a nice selection of fresh ingredients.

Negative Reviews

Road noise is distracting to peace and quiet

One noticeable distraction to a stay at Barbican House is that the road is heavily used, and thus quite noisy at times The double glazed windows help buffer the sounds, but if you think you need the window open, you may want to request a quieter back room.

Old fashioned décor can use a modern makeover

Rich furnishings that complement the Victorian facade are still seen as outdated Even though this is a centuries' old building, more contemporary designs and fresher colours would be favoured for the rooms.

More common areas and a lift would be nice

A lift would be beneficial A dedicated lounge space would also be nice, to encourage conversations and make them more comfortable.
